Frequently Asked Questions
Public Cellular Blocking Service (PCBS)
About PCBS and IMEI Blocking
-
Public Cellular Blocking Service (PCBS) is the Government's initiative that enables blocking of lost or stolen mobile phones across all carrier networks in Malaysia. Once a mobile phone is reported as lost or stolen, the phone will be blocked nationwide on all networks.
-
IMEI blocking is a service provided by Maxis that disables a lost or stolen device from:
- Making or receiving calls
- Sending or receiving SMS
- Accessing data or Internet
This blocking works within the mobile operator's network.
Understanding Your Device and IMEI
-
IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique 15-digit code that identifies each mobile device. All mobile phones, tablets, dongles, and USB modems have a unique IMEI.
-
- SIM blocking prevents usage and charges to a specific mobile number
- Device/IMEI blocking disables the device itself, even when a different SIM is inserted
Blocking Process
-
Devices with valid IMEI numbers that were last used by the registered customer on the Maxis network can be blocked.
-
You can request blocking by:
- Calling our customer service
- Visiting a Maxis Centre
-
If your device is lost or stolen while overseas, it can still be blocked if:
- You have an active mobile service with a Malaysian carrier
- The device has been previously used on your Malaysian network
Note: IMEI blocking only prevents usage on Malaysian networks, not overseas networks.
-
Only the registered owner of the service used on the device prior to it being lost or stolen can request blocking or unblocking.
-
Only the registered owner of the mobile line can request to suspend, block, or unblock the device. The user must contact the registered owner to initiate blocking or unblocking.
After Blocking
-
No, device/IMEI blocking only disables the device from making/receiving calls, sending/receiving SMS, and accessing data or Internet on the network. It cannot help locate the device.
-
After blocking, you won't be able to make or receive calls or messages. The phone may display messages such as:
- "Unable to attach to the network"
- "SIM registration failed"
- "No network signal/bar"
If you try to make a call, you may see "call setup failed" or "no network."
Unblocking Process
-
- Call our customer service
- Visiti a Maxis Centre
-
- Blocking in Maxis home network: 1 working day
- Unblocking in Maxis home network: 1 working day
