Maxis Berhad (Maxis) highlighted its role as a key enabler of digital transformation at the Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur (SCEKL) 2025 held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, which was officially launched by Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim. Through its B2B arm, Maxis Business, the company showcased solutions powered by artificial intelligence (AI) under the theme "Cities of Tomorrow Begin Today," designed to solve critical urban challenges.
The Maxis showcase was visited by Minister of Digital, YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, who was briefed on how smart city solutions can accelerate digitalisation for local councils and enhance public services. Maxis’ digital transformation initiatives align with the strategic thrusts of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), which positions AI adoption as fundamental to the nation’s growth.
"Smart cities are about using practical, scalable solutions to solve real urban challenges. The showcase brought to life three practical AI use cases, all underpinned by the company's fast, reliable, and secure connectivity. These use cases highlighted how AI can be applied to solve real-world urban challenges in areas like public safety and traffic management, ultimately fostering more liveable and secure communities.
The first use case promotes safer roads by automatically detecting unsafe driving behaviours such as mobile phone use or failure to wear a seatbelt. This capability helps identify high-risk areas and common unsafe behaviours, enabling more effective road safety planning.
The second focuses on urban mobility, using automated vehicle identification to improve adherence to traffic, access, and parking regulations. This contributes to smoother traffic flow and more organised urban spaces. The third use case centres on public safety, highlighting how real-time video analytics can enhance situational awareness and support faster incident response times in public safety operations.
These next generation use cases demonstrate Maxis Business’ commitment to ensure industries and public sector bodies are future ready. This is delivered through integrated connectivity and digital solutions including AI, cloud, the internet of things (IoT), managed services, and cybersecurity, all powered by Maxis’ advanced mobile and fibre network.
Maxis’ smart city showcase reflects its belief that "Tomorrow Begins Today." This promise guides the company's purpose to connect people, businesses, and communities to the possibilities of tomorrow with world-class connectivity and innovative solutions, actively supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation.
