Maxis, in a strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), today launched its expanded Generative AI (GenAI) workshop, Program GenAI Maxis eKelas. The programme represents a significant step in national efforts and aims to empower students and teachers with future-ready AI skills and knowledge, supporting Malaysia's transition to an AI-powered nation through digital and AI literacy as envisioned in the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) and the Digital Education Policy (Dasar Pendidikan Digital).

The launch, held at SMK Seri Bintang Selatan, was officiated by Puan Aniza Kamarulzaman, Director of Educational Resources and Technology Division (BSTP) of the MOE. Co-created with the Ministry, the workshop combines industry expertise with curriculum-aligned module design, incorporating active facilitation and measurable learning outcomes, involving 50 Maxis volunteers as developers and trainers. In her officiating speech, she hailed the program as a testament to impactful public-private partnerships.

quote

"This collaboration with Maxis is a clear manifestation of our shared commitment to mainstreaming technology in education. Program GenAI Maxis eKelas is not just about technology transfer; it is about cultivating a generation that is not only skilled but also principled and responsible in using AI. By equipping our teachers and students with these critical skills, we are laying the foundation for the 'AI-Powered Classroom' and ensuring our future workforce can lead, innovate, and compete on a global stage," - Puan Aniza

The comprehensive workshop is structured into two dedicated tracks to ensure both students and educators can leverage the power of Gen AI. Students can explore practical applications of GenAI, including prompt engineering for creative and academic tasks and soft skills development. The modular teacher track equips educators with training on AI insights, prompt engineering for teaching, and professional development. Boths tracks cover ethical AI use, ensuring participants are equipped to navigate the AI landscape responsibility and safely.

Maxis aims to upskill 30,000 students and teachers nationwide through Program GenAI Maxis  eKelas. Maxis aims to achieve this by covering 150 schools in all states in Malaysia and digitalising the modules for wider access through the Maxis eKelas portal, accessible through the Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia (DELIMa) platform.

"In line with our belief that ‘Tomorrow Begins Today’, we are equipping today’s students and teachers with critical skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven world. By providing them with a strong foundation in Gen AI, they will be well-positioned to seize future opportunities and realise their aspirations. We look forward to fostering the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders for the nation." - Azizul Abdul Rahman, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Maxis

Workshops in selected schools demonstrated positive outcomes, producing measurable improvements with an average 40% increase in post-test scores in comparison to pre-test scores. The Gen AI modules developed and trialled through pilot sessions with more than 70 teachers and 60 students. In addition to Gen AI applications, the workshop also covers essential knowledge around topics like Machine Learning (ML) and Large Language Models (LLMs).

This initiative is part of Maxis’ ongoing commitment to enhancing digital learning under its flagship eKelas initiative. Program GenAI Maxis eKelas builds on the success of Maxis eKelas’ Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programme, which began incorporating GenAI modules in 2024.

Maxis eKelas is an after-school digital learning initiative aimed at improving academic performance, particularly in underserved communities. It offers live tutorials, group learning, competitions, and comprehensive digital content via its web portal and mobile app, bridging the digital divide and empowering students and educators nationwide. Through initiatives like these, Maxis continues to support the growth of digital literacy and innovation in Malaysia’s education system, ensuring students and teachers are well-prepared to harness the full potential of AI for a brighter future.
