Your Guide to Maxis SIM Cards

 

  • The latest technology is supported by LTE SIM, which comes in four main types.

    Three are physical cards of varying sizes: the Standard SIM, the Micro-SIM, and the Nano-SIM. The fourth type is the eSIM, which is a digital SIM that is already embedded within the device by the manufacturer. The correct type to use depends on your specific device.

  • The default PIN to unlock your Maxis SIM card after restarting your phone is 0123. For security reasons, we strongly recommend changing this PIN immediately after your first use via your device’s security settings. 

SIM Replacement

  • You might need a new SIM card if you notice:

    • Your phone frequently loses signal or shows a "No SIM" error.
    • You have difficulty making calls or using mobile data despite being in a good coverage area and nobody else facing the same issue.
    • You have an older SIM and wish to connect to our latest 4G or 5G networks,
    • An upgrade to eSIM for your latest device.
  • A: Replacing your SIM card is easy, and you have several convenient options depending on your needs and the type of SIM you require.

    Here’s a breakdown of where you can perform a SIM replacement:

    1. Visit a Maxis Centre or Maxis Exclusive Partner (MEP) This is the most comprehensive option for getting a new physical SIM card.
      • Who can use this? All customers, Personal and Business users. However, for Business line users, certain documentation is required.
    2. Use a Self-Service Kiosk (SSK) This is a quick option for a standard replacement if you can do it yourself.
      • Who can use this? Personal registered customers.
      • Important: This is only available for active lines and cannot be used to replace SIM cards for Wireless Broadband or eSIM.
    3. For an eSIM Replacement If you need to replace or transfer an eSIM, you can do it digitally.
      • Who can use this? Customers on Maxis, Hotlink, Business Postpaid registered lines.
      • How?
        In-Person: Get a new QR code at Maxis Centres. However, for Business line users, you need to bring along an Authorized letter from the company.
        Digitally:
        Personal: You can do this yourself through the Maxis or Hotlink app. If you are using an Apple device, you may also be able to use the "eSIM Quick Transfer" feature directly from your phone's settings. Refer Maxis eSIM Transfer Guide for more information.
        Business: Company PIC can help submit the request via Maxis Business Hub

     

    Please be aware that SIM replacements cannot be processed over the phone via our Contact Centres.

  • For Personal: You need to provide a Passport or MyKad with Biometric. Temporary IC or other temporary documents are not accepted.

    For Business lines: You need to bring along an Authorized letter from the company.

  • Yes, there is a standard fee of RM10 for replacing your SIM card. This charge is applicable for most replacement requests, including getting a new physical card or transferring an eSIM to another device.
