Frequently Asked Questions
π Maxis & Hotlink SMS Sender ID Change
-
Starting 21 Jan 2026:
- SMS with sender ID "Maxis" will show as "80XXX MAXIS" (e.g., 80100 MAXIS).
- SMS with sender ID "Hotlink" or "Hotlink Gift" will show as "80XXX HLINK" (e.g., 80100 HLINK).
- Messages from other shortcodes (e.g., 6XXXX, 2XXXX) remain unchanged.
Your messages aren't changing - only how they appear in your inbox. You'll still receive the same alerts and offers.β -
This government (MCMC) requirement helps:
β Stop fake messages pretending to be Maxis/Hotlink
β Make real messages easier to spot
β Protect you from SMS scams -
Only the sender name changes:
- π¬ Same account alerts (bills, data usage)
- π Same promotions and offers
- β±οΈ Same message frequency
The content inside messages stays identical.
-
For messages from "80XXX MAXIS" or "80XXX HLINK" senders:
Verify the sender name includes numbers + "MAXIS" (e.g., 80200 MAXIS) or numbers + "HLINK" (e.g., 80300 HLINK).
For messages from other shortcodes (e.g., 6XXXX, 2XXXX):
Verify the sender matches the expected numeric ID for official Maxis/Hotlink services.β
Real messages WILL NEVER:
- β Ask for your password or full IC number
- β Demand instant payment via unofficial links
- β Threaten immediate disconnection
-
