Maxis Berhad (Maxis) recently contributed 15 refurbished laptops to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to assist underprivileged students with their tertiary studies. The contribution marks a milestone for Maxis, which has distributed more than 1,000 refurbished laptops to education and community causes over the past three years.
Under its circularity initiatives, the company services and reconditions retired enterprise laptops before donating them to community partners and students. At UKM, the devices provide undergraduates with dependable access to coursework and online academic resources.
Beyond tertiary education, Maxis contributes refurbished laptops to schools and community centres nationwide. Devices are also provided to secondary school students under Menuju Gemilang, an initiative developed with the Ministry of Education to help underprivileged students excel in SPM while equipping them for higher education.
Extending the useful life of these devices promotes circularity and delays e-waste. Giving these assets a productive second life supports digital inclusion across Malaysia by providing essential tools to students and communities.
"It is essential for students to have access to the tools and learning resources needed to achieve their academic goals. We welcome this practical support, which helps ease financial pressures on our students. Active collaboration between universities and corporate partners plays an important role in closing the digital divide, and ongoing industry support is vital to preparing future-ready talent." - Prof. Dato’ Dr. Sufian Jusoh, Vice-Chancellor of UKM
"Guided by our belief that Tomorrow Begins Today, this initiative reflects our commitment to digital inclusion and responsible technology use. Reaching this milestone of 1,000 refurbished laptops demonstrates how circularity can create meaningful community impact. With this latest handover, we hope the devices will ease daily learning challenges for UKM students as they work towards their academic goals." - Azizul Abdul Rahman, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Maxis
The laptop contributions complement Maxis’ wider community education initiatives, including Menuju Gemilang and the GenAI eKelas programme, as part of ongoing efforts to improve digital access across Malaysia.
