This Deepavali, Maxis Berhad (Maxis) brough festive cheer to over 400 lower-income individuals across Johor through two community events in Muar and Kulai, reaffirming its commitment to supporting underserved groups.
Central to these efforts was a Deepavali festive charity held recently in Muar. Organised in collaboration with the Malaysian Indian Youth Council (MIYC) Muar branch, the initiative benefited more than 200 residents from surrounding areas. Complementing this, Maxis also contributed to an outreach programme in Kulai, led by YB Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications, in collaboration with Persatuan Kebajikan dan Pembangunan Masyarakat India.
Kicking off the Muar initiative at Kompleks MSN Pagoh, Maxis provided 60 lower-income families with essential groceries, such as cooking oil, rice, flour, and sugar, to aid their Deepavali preparations. Guests were also given goodie bags filled with snacks such as murukku, tea, spices, and bihun, before sharing a festive lunch together.
Beyond immediate assistance, Maxis is also supporting local youth through digital inclusion initiatives by sponsoring three months of basic laptop and mobile phone repair training for selected participants. Covering practical device disassembly and repair skills, the programme contributes to workforce readiness, equipping participants with the technical know-how to support future employment.
For its Kulai initiative, Maxis joined other corporate sponsors as they distributed care packs of dry goods and household essentials such as flour, curry powder, soap and shampoo to 220 underserved individuals. The packs were handed out across four local welfare associations and community centres in Kulai.
"Deepavali is a celebration of light and togetherness. As we embrace the diversity of our nation, we are honoured to support those in need and create opportunities that make a difference. While festive aid brings immediate relief, we believe true empowerment comes from equipping our youth with practical skills to build a better future. This reflects our brand promise, because at Maxis, Tomorrow Begins Today." - Azizul Abdul Rahman, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Maxis.
From addressing immediate community needs to fostering economic empowerment through future-ready skills, Maxis remains committed to creating sustainable social impact for the communities it serves.
