In its efforts to help communities impacted by the recent floods in Johor, Maxis stood alongside the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) to deliver essential food aid as part of the Ministry’s Operasi Bantuan Pasca Banjir.

Maxis has allocated 1,000 food boxes for distribution to impacted families in locations identified by Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia (JAPEN) under KKD.

At a handover ceremony held on 13 March at Dewanraya Kampung Sg Tiram, Maxis joined YB Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of KKD, to hand over the first batch comprising 200 food boxes to families from Kampung Sungai Tiram, Kampung Simpang Mados and Kampung SC. Maxis’ own volunteers from the Southern region were mobilised on the ground to help distribute the food boxes, together with JAPEN.

"Maxis appreciates the efforts by the Ministry in driving important initiatives for the welfare of the people. With so many displaced and livelihoods affected, we are committed to doing our part in collaboration with the Ministry to ease the burden of those impacted," - said Mariam Bevi Batcha, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Maxis.

Meanwhile, Maxis’ engineers have continued to monitor its network performance at affected areas and have taken initiatives to restore services where needed to minimize connectivity disruptions. These include deployment of portable gensets where there is power failure, replacement of damaged equipment due to submerging of sites and installation of free WiFi at several Pusat Pemindahan Sementara (PPS) in Johor and Pahang. For areas there were inaccessible due to safety risks, drones were used for aerial assessments as part of its site restoration efforts.

Based on historical flood data, Maxis has also undertaken proactive measures to mitigate the impact of rising water levels to minimise damage to equipment, such as raising equipment platforms or shelters. This would allow teams to speed up recovery processes and easy access such as for genset deployment. Backup transmission links are also enabled to provide service continuity and to avoid widespread outages.
