New MEASAT-3d satellite will further expand Maxis’ Rangkaian Menyeluruh

MEASAT 3D Satellite
  • Recent successful launch of MEASAT-3d satellite will play an important role for telecommunications sector to leverage mobile, fibre and satellite communication capabilities to bring a better network experience to highly remote locations
  • New satellite will enable the expansion of high-speed converged VSAT solutions to its broad spectrum of customers
  • Maxis’ continuous investments and innovation into building its Rangkaian Menyeluruh in line with commitment to ensuring all Malaysians are connected in every way possible, at all times

The successful launch of MEASAT Global Berhad’s MEASAT-3d satellite marks a significant milestone in expanding high-speed broadband coverage and data-intensive services in connecting even more Malaysians, especially in remote areas.

“For over 25 years, we have invested significantly in building our Rangkaian Menyeluruh (all-encompassing network) to ensure that all Malaysians, no matter who or where they are, are connected in every way possible, at any time, so that they can Always Be Ahead in this changing world. We are thrilled with the recent launch of MEASAT-3d as it will have an important role in leveraging mobile, fibre and satellite communication capabilities to bring a better network experience to even more Malaysians,” said Gokhan Ogut, Chief Executive Officer, Maxis.

As part of its Rangkaian Menyeluruh, Maxis has been committed to the country’s JENDELA action plan. As at Q1 2022, it has achieved 3,000 premises passed under commercial and 16,400 premises passed under the Universal Service Provision (USP) for fibre; and for mobile, 12 new sites and 609 upgrades to sites. For JENDELA Phase 2, the use of Satellite Broadband Network Access will provide the required connectivity reach to achieve 100% internet coverage for Malaysia.

Over the years, high-speed converged Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) solutions have benefitted a broad spectrum of customers across enterprise and mobile business segments, ranging from Corporate to SMEs, from private to government initiatives, and geographically spanning land and sea. The launch of the new satellite will enable more comprehensive coverage and performance especially for underserved and remote places across the nation that are lacking 4G or fibre network access.  MEASAT-3d will complement the MEASAT3a and 3b satellites for core communications needs and increase satellite broadband capacity ten-fold to 30 Gbps, enabling an increase in customer internet broadband speed from 30 Mbps to up to 100 Mbps.

VSAT solutions can utilise this satellite broadband capacity to provide rapid, ubiquitous communication networks that are independent of geographical barriers or terrestrial infrastructure, therefore this is suitable for very remote areas and locations that are difficult to access, or at terrains that are less feasible for normal terrestrial services or mobile towers.
