Maxis Brings Christmas Cheer To Residents Of The Salvation Army Kuching Children’s Home

As the festive season nears and gets into full swing, Maxis has once again turned its attention to the less fortunate. Today, more than 20 Maxis volunteers paid a visit to The Salvation Army Kuching Children’s Home, to bring festive cheer to the 50 children residing at the home.

During the one-day visit, Maxis volunteers helped to refurbish the playground area and build a small wooden gazebo at the entrance of the home, giving the children a safe space to play in. Freshly made meals were also prepared on the spot by the residents and some of Maxis’ own talented ‘chefs’, to be served to the residents and all those who helped out during the day.

“It’s a privilege to give back to the community, especially during the festive season. What’s even more meaningful is that our own employees were able to personally get their hands ‘dirty’ and see for themselves the impact they had on the kids. It was great to witness the spirit of volunteerism come alive, and we hope this small gesture from us can help brighten up their lives,” said Alexius Bong, Maxis’ Head of Sarawak region.

“We are thankful to Maxis for coming to our home and helping refurbish the playground for our kids. It has always been their dream to have a nice place to play in, and this year, Maxis has made their dream come true,” said Major T Chelvee, Superintendent of The Salvation Army Kuching Children’s Home.

Maxis encourages volunteerism among its employees, especially during the festive seasons. This year, Maxis had organised project #GongxiHome during Chinese New Year, which saw more than 200 Maxis volunteers deliver food boxes to 100 urban poor families across Klang Valley, Penang and Johor. Maxis employees also took part in #SenyumRaya, where they partnered with EPIC Homes to refurbish Pusat Jagaan Al Fikrah, a welfare home located in Kajang, Selangor, in time for Raya celebrations. For Deepavali, employees took part in the ‘Light a Life’ campaign, where they spent time with the youth of MySkills Foundation for a teambuilding session.

Recently, Maxis launched its new flagship CR programme, eKelas;an after-school digital learning programme. eKelas brings learning in a fun and vibrant way using highly-interactive online content and live video tutorials. The programme is currently being run at 10 Pusat Internet 1Malaysia (PI1M) under Maxis’ care in Kedah, Kelantan, Selangor, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Sarawak. Maxis’ PI1Ms in Sarawak are located at Kampung Telaga Air, Kuching and Kampung Bandung, Sibu.
