Maxis extends further support for customers with additional 1GB data free every day and continued priority on network health

  • Continues to ensure uninterrupted connectivity by keeping its fixed and mobile networks healthy despite traffic surge with continued investments and network staff in the field
  • Customers continue to have free access to important websites and free calls to CRPC hotline and State Health Department numbers
  • Free access and unlimited data for students from rural communities to continue learning digitally from home with Maxis eKelas

The national resolution to stay home and stay safe following the extension of the Movement Control Order (MCO) has driven people and companies across the country to keep living and operating in the digital and connected world, at home. Ensuring that the connectivity lifeline remains uninterrupted and accessible for all customers, Maxis has once again reaffirmed its commitment to create a safer and connected Malaysia with even more support for its employees, customers, businesses and heroic front liners.

In line with the PRIHATIN Economic Stimulus Package announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on 27 March, Maxis is offering 1GB of free mobile data every day for all Maxis postpaid, Maxis Business postpaid, Hotlink Prepaid and Hotlink postpaid customers. Customers can redeem the data starting 1 April 2020 throughout the extended MCO period, for use between 8am to 6pm daily.

"The nation has had to make significant lifestyle adjustments since the commencement of the MCO. Having to do everything under one roof – our homes – we become acutely aware that technology and connectivity matter more than ever. We therefore want to be even more supportive by giving an extra 1GB every day for all our customers. We also continue to ensure uninterrupted connectivity by keeping our fixed and mobile networks healthy despite the traffic surge with continued investments and our network staff in the field. This is our priority to all our customers especially during this difficult time,” said Gokhan Ogut, Maxis’ Chief Executive Officer.

How to redeem the free 1GB data every day

Customers can redeem the pass daily from MyMaxis app, MyMaxis Biz app, Hotlink Flex app or Hotlink RED app, or UMB to select the 1GB Daily pass option:

Maxis customers will also continue to have free access to selected websites for all the latest updates and important information, including free calls to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CRPC) hotline and telephone numbers of all State Health Departments during the MCO period.

Other initiatives announced earlier on 23 March will continue throughout the extended MCO period, and can be accessed through the MyMaxis and Hotlink RED apps for ease and convenience:

As also announced earlier to help businesses stay home and stay connected, there is a six-month free subscription on Maxis’ Managed Unified Communications through Microsoft Teams for Teams Phone System and Teams Calling packages (first-come-first-serve). There is also a two-month free trial for fixed mobile convergence via Voice Connect App.

With telecommunications being an essential service to the public, Maxis has been working closely with MCMC to provide assistance and support to ensure that consumers and businesses have uninterrupted connectivity and availability of services during this period.

Learning never stops even during MCO

Maxis also continues to support the community with its flagship programme eKelas, by enabling students from the rural communities to continue learning during the MCO, with free access and unlimited use of data on the eKelas portal from their homes. The portal provides learning content for Science, Mathematics and English for Year 6 to Form 5. Additionally, eKelas students have special access to the National Library’s 14,000 eBooks and audio books.

eKelas is also ramping up digital engagement in its portal, where students will be able to interact with the portal’s Community Manager, Abang Portal, for guided learning, every Monday to Friday between 9am to 4pm. Students will be directed to the learning modules for the day for discussions and questions. Meanwhile, live tutorial sessions on exam-focused topics will be available on 3-4 April and 17-18 April for interactive learning with experienced teachers. Every action or task that eKelas students complete in the portal will gain them points which will qualify them to be selected to participate in experiential activities such as exam clinics or workshops.
