Maxis encourages its 3G customers to upgrade to 4G

  • Industry wide 3G network sunsetting to make way for a vastly improved connectivity experience with 4G, with faster download speeds, webpage loading and smoother video and music streaming.
  • Maxis’ Balas Budi dengan 4G campaign encourages 4G customers to help families and friends to upgrade.
  • Many exiciting promotions and device bundlng offers available for customers who need to upgrade to 4G devices

With increasing Internet-based activities, online transactions and working from home, access to a strong and reliable mobile data network has become critical, more than ever.

Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA), the Government’s digital infrastructure plan to achieve wider 4G coverage and higher quality broadband experience for all Malaysians, was implemented to address these changing times. An important part of this plan is the 3G sunset initiative which is being undertaken by all telecommunication providers and set to be completed by the end of 2021. The aim is for customers to pivot to faster and more reliable 4G networks that will enable download speeds 10 times faster than 3G, instant webpage leading and smoother video and music streaming.

Maxis has been proactively engaging and communicating with its 3G customers of all three segments – mobile consumers, mobile enterprise and M2M/IoT enterprise – to gradually upgrade to 4G before the year end. To further drive the 4G upgrade, Maxis has also rolled out a campaign called Balas Budi dengan 4G, which aims to support and assist customers to prepare for the eventual network transition. The campaign essentially encourages existing 4G users to help their parents, families and friends who are still on 3G devices to quickly switch to 4G devices, including how they can have easy access to 4G devices.

“The retirement of 3G is being done with a customer first mindset, and we are fully committed to assist our customers every step of the way. Our lines are always open to those who have questions or need assistance regarding the upgrade. We also call on our 4G users out there to encourage their families and friends who are still on 3G, to start switching to the 4G network and device, so that no one is left behind,” said Patrick Er, Maxis Chief Sales & Services Officer.

For customers who need to upgrade to 4G phones, Maxis has exciting promotions and many device bundling offers, including its Zerolution plan and RM1 device plans with affordable monthly commitments. Customer simply need to call in, visit Maxis’ website or walk into any Hotlink or Maxis store nationwide.

While the 3G sunset will not affect current Maxis 4G users, they should enable Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) on their devices. VoLTE is an advanced technology that delivers crystal-clear sound over voice calls across the Maxis network, reduced background noise and the ability to surf at 4G speeds even while on a call. Maxis launched VoLTE in October 2020 and it is being rolled out in phases to both prepaid and postpaid customers.

For more information on 3G network sunsetting, or to request for assistance with your device migration, call us at 123 or visit https://www.maxis.com.my/en/faq/network/mobile/3g-sunsetting/. For Maxis Business customers, they can also approach Account Managers directly or dial 1919 for assistance.
