Maxis #DeepavaliMakeover Project Brings Joy To Students Of SRJK (T) Ladang Kerling

In conjunction with this year’s Deepavali celebration, more than 40 Maxis employees headed down to SRJK (T) Ladang Kerling in Hulu Selangor, to help refurbish the school and bring joy to the students as part of Maxis’ #DeepavaliMakeover project.

During the one-day event, volunteers took on different tasks to give the school a facelift. This included giving the school’s wall fence a new coat of paint, cleaning the sports room and sprucing up the library with more than 400 storybooks donated by Maxis employees. The school children were also treated to a sumptuous lunch as well as goodies.

Beyond upgrading the school, the volunteers also took time to interact and mingle with the students through different activities such as football and telematches. The community also joined the volunteers for a sumptuous lunch at the school’s premises.

“It was not only a memorable experience for the students, but also for Maxis employees who volunteered for this meaningful cause,” said Mariam Bevi Batcha, Maxis’ Head of Corporate Affairs.

Maxis’ #DeepavaliMakeover project was the result of a crowdsourcing effort, where Maxis employees had the opportunity to share ideas on how to give back to the community. Many great suggestions were received, but the winning idea was to help give a well-deserving school a makeover this Deepavali.

Mithirendra Maniam, the Maxis employee who came up with the idea for the #DeepavaliMakeover project, said, “I’m really glad that this event turned out to be successful. We touched many hearts.”

“We are very happy to have Maxis’ group of volunteers help us paint the school and do some charity work this Deepavali. Maxis has done a great job. They helped brighten up our school and this has definitely motivated the children,” said Kumar Sidambaram, Headmaster of SRJK (T) Ladang Kerling.
