In the spirit of Hari Raya, Maxis Berhad (Maxis) today strengthened relationships and spread Raya joy at its Hari Raya Aidilfitri Charity Open House today with residents of five charity homes at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The event, hosted by Maxis' Chairman, YM Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Arshad Bin Raja Tun Uda, members of Maxis' senior management and employees, was attended by over 150 residents from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Ibu-Tunggal An-Nur, Pusat Jagaan Insan Istimewa, Trinity Community Children Home, Pusat Jagaan Persatuan Insan Istimewa Cheras Selangor and Pusat Jagaan Cahaya Kasih Bestari .
At the event, Maxis presented a total of RM50,000 to the five homes, and distributed ‘duit raya’ to each of the residents. Residents were also treated to a spread of sumptuous food while children from the homes put up enthusiastic festive performances. After the event, Maxis organised a special educational excursion to Aquaria KLCC for the children from the charity homes, accompanied by Maxis volunteers.
“Maxis is continuously working towards creating a positive impact on communities. As a responsible corporate citizen, Maxis takes the opportunity to offer assistance to those who are in need from all segments of the community, not just through monetary contributions but through engagement with them by involving our Maxis staff as volunteers, with the hopes of strengthening bonds. Today’s event is one way for us to reach out to them and provide them the necessary attention and assistance,” said Raja Tan Sri Arshad.
As part of support for the needs of the community, Maxis has been embarking on various initiatives, including the introduction of its Home Adoption programme in 2012 for the Independent Living and Training Centre (ILTC) and the Jenjarom Old Folks Home. The programme focuses on reintegration and helping the lives of the residents in these homes through cash contributions, and providing them with basic IT skills training by Maxis employees and volunteers. Maxis has also been supporting the country’s aspirations in the areas of technology, education and youth development through its flagship Maxis’ Cyberkids programme for the past 10 years, providing ICT training to more than 8,600 students and teachers from 1,500 schools nationwide. In 2012, the Cyberkids initiative and Maxis has since extended the Cyberkids programme to Sekolah Pendidikan Khas, or special needs schools.
