Back up your data

You probably have tons of important photos, notes and sensitive information that you don’t want to lose. The first step of phone recycling is making time to back back up your data.

Delete your accounts

Signing out of your accounts is easy. Go into your phone 'Settings' and find the 'Accounts' menu. Select your account and delete or sign out. Keep in mind that the phone may need a WiFi connection or cellular signal to perform this step.

Factory reset

Ensure that you perform a factory reset to erase all your data.

Remove your SIM card and memory cards

Remember to remove all SIM cards and memory cards as they can be used to store contact information and other personal data.

Toxic Components

E-waste from our electronics contain toxic components such as accumulators, mercury-switches, glass from cathode-ray tubes and other activated glass or polychlorinated biphenyl-capacitors. They may also be contaminated with cadmium, mercury, lead, nickel, chromium, copper, lithium, silver, mangane or polychlorinated biphenyI., all of which are dangerous to our health.

Environmental Pollution

When e-waste is exposed to heat, toxic chemicals are released into the air, damaging our atmosphere. When e-waste is deposited in a landfill, it tends to leach to the earth, with toxic trace elements reaching groundwater. This can be harmful if it enters any of our bodies of water.
