Frequently Asked Questions

International Direct Dial

  • IDD (International Direct Dialing) lets you call another country directly from Malaysia without needing an operator.

    A Bit of History:

    • Before IDD: In the past, you had to contact a telephone operator to manually connect your international call. This could take time and wasn’t available 24/7.
    • With IDD: Introduced in the 1970s, you can now dial international numbers yourself – no waiting for an operator!

How to Dial Internationally from Malaysia

    1. Dial Malaysia’s Exit Code: 00 (replaces the old operator-assisted method).
    2. Add the Country Code:
      • Singapore: 65
      • Australia: 61
      • Saudi Arabia: 966
    3. Enter the Full Number: Include the area code (if needed) and local number.

Example: Calling a friend in Jakarta, Indonesia:
      00 + 62 (Indonesia) + 21 (Jakarta) + XXXXXXXX.
  • How do I activate International Direct Dial (IDD) service?IDD is a default service; it will be activated for you when your line is activated. • Yes, you may choose IDD 132 to save on international calls to fixed and mobile numbers around the globe.

Just dial 132 00 to enjoy the cheaper call rates.

  • IDD 132 is generally cheaper for longer calls.Example (calling Singapore): A 40-minute call costs RM1.80 with IDD 132 but would cost RM4.00 at standard rates.

Important: For very short calls (e.g., under 10 seconds), standard rates might be cheaper.

If you do not use the 132 prefix, you will be charged standard IDD rates.

  • Location: It can only be used for calls made from Malaysia. It does not work while you are roaming overseas.
