• What is data roaming?

  Data roaming allows you to connect to the internet whilst travelling abroad.

• What are the pre-requisites before you use data roaming?

  Do ensure International Roaming is activated on your mobile phone. Refer International Roaming FAQ for more information.

• What are data roam passes?

  Data roam passes are roaming Internet pass for Internet browsing whilst travelling abroad.

  These passes are available for Maxis Postpaid subscribers.

  There are 6 Data Roam Passes:

  • 1 Day Unlimited Data pass at RM29 (single country pass)
  • DataRoam Pass at RM38/ day (single country pass)
  • 3 Days ASEAN pass at RM39 (multi country pass) 
  • 7 Days ASEAN pass at RM 49 (multi country pass) 
  • 7 Days APAC pass at RM 69 (multi country pass) 
  • 15 Days Multi country Data pass at RM99 (include Aeromobile) 
  • 30 Days Multi country Data pass at RM149 (include Aeromobile) 

  Note: Data roam passes do not cover call and SMS usages and data usages in Maritime (cruise ship)

  Fair Usage Policy 'FUP' applies during roaming i.e. Upon exhaustion of the respective pass’s fair usage quota, you may continue to surf for free at a reduced speed till the pass expiry. You may check the expiry of the pass through Maxis app.

• Which are the rate plans that are eligible to buy data roaming passes?

  Maxis data roaming passes are available for subscribers on any Maxis mobile plans.

• There are so many available passes, which one is the most suitable for me?

  Here is the summary of where you can use each of the passes:

If you are going to one or more of the listed countries, choose this if your stay is more than 1 day and not more than 7 days. If you stay is longer than 7 days, activate either 15 or 30 Days Multi country Data pass for greater savings. You may schedule this pass 14 days prior to your arrival date via Maxis app or activate it upon arrival. You have to activate this on your Maxis app, Maxis Care, and Easy Menu *100# You may activate this pass at departure or day 1 of your arrival. If you activate this pass and the 1-Day Unlimited Data on the same day; the charge for the 1-Day Unlimited Data will be waived.
  7 days ASEAN pass (multi country pass)	RM49
  7 days APAC pass (multi country pass)	RM69	Available in 27 countries. Check availability on Maxis app or web at https://www.maxis.com.my/en/mobile-plans/maxis-roaming/	If you are going to one or more of the listed countries, choose this if your stay is more than 1 day and not more than 7 days. If you stay is longer than 7 days, activate either 15 or 30 Days Multi country Data pass for greater savings. Use this if your stay is only 1 day or if 15 or 30 Days Multi country Data pass is not available. If this pass is activated and you activate the following passes on the same day/ before the pass expires, the charge for this pass will be waived. 15 Days Multi country Data pass or 30 Days Multi country Data pass
  15 Days Multi country Data pass	RM99	Available for more than 100+ over countries, including Aeromobile (inflight). Check availability on Maxis app or web at https://www.maxis.com.my/en/mobile-plans/maxis-roaming/	Choose this pass if: your stay is more than 2 days in countries with 1 Day DataRoam pass and this pass is also available or your stay in countries listed in Asean is more than 7 days. You may schedule this pass 14 days prior to your arrival date via Maxis app or activate it upon arrival. You have to activate this pass on your Maxis app, Maxis Care, and Easy Menu *100# If you activate this pass, and charge for 1-Day DataRoam pass or 1-Day Unlimited Data pass which is activated on the same day, this will be waived.

• How do I subscribe to a data roam Pass?

  Auto subscription;

  • 1 Day Unlimited Data pass at RM29
  • 1 day DataRoam Pass at RM38

  Subscribe via Maxis app, go to Service Details > Roaming Passes & Rates for:

  • 1 day DataRoam Pass at RM38
  • 3 Days ASEAN Pass: RM39 (multi country pass)*
  • 7 Days ASEAN Pass: RM49 (multi country pass)*
  • 7 Days APAC Pass: RM69 (multi country pass)*
  • 15 Days Multi country Data Pass: RM99 (includes Aeromobile)*
  • 30 Days Multi country Data Pass: RM149 (includes Aeromobile)* *If you buy any of these long validity passes before your 1 Day Unlimited Data/ 1 Day DataRoam pass expires, you will only be charged for this pass.

  Note: If you are a principal line user, you may assist your share/ supplementary users to activate Data Roam pass via Maxis app, go to All Services and select the line you wish to activate Data Roam pass, tap on Roaming Passes & Rates, select the destination country, select the pass you wish to purchase, confirm you have selected the correct pass and tap OK.

• Will I be informed on the subscription?

  We will inform you via SMS when your pass has been successfully activated, for both manual and auto subscriptions. Alternatively, you can check via  Maxis app or dial *100#.

  Note: If you are a principal line user and activating Data Roam pass for your share/ supplementary line, both of you will be notified via SMS when the Data Roam pass has been successfully activated. Alternatively, you can check via Maxis app.

• Which are the countries where Data Roam Passes are available?

  One or more data roam passes are available in over 100 countries, click here to check the available passes for your destination.

• How would I know the available data roam passes for a particular country?

  Upon your arrival to a new country or territory, you will receive a Welcome SMS from Maxis when you switch ON your Maxis Mobile. It is stated in the SMS whether Data Roam pass is available in that country.

• How do I keep track on my pass usage & expiry?

  Quota expiry SMS notification will be sent to you once your quota expires.

  Alternatively, you can check both the pass validity & usage in Maxis app, or via Easy Menu by dialing *100# > International Roaming > Check Status.

• If I am to activate a 7 days pass for my usage in Sydney. How do I calculate the validity period for me to match my stay?

  Each of the passes will have a validity of Xdays x 24 hours from the activation date and time. For better tracking, it will be converted to Malaysian Time.

  You can check the exact expiry Date and Time from the confirmation SMS that you received or via Maxis app.

• I have purchased 1 Day Unlimited Data pass in Singapore. Can I use the same pass in Thailand on the same day?

  1 Day Unlimited Data is and single-country pass and is country specific E.g. Singapore pass cannot be used in Thailand or other countries.

  If you are traveling to multiple countries in one day, you will need to activate 1 Day Unlimited Data pass for each country and browse on the respective preferred operators. Depending on the countries, you will enjoy - better value with the following multi country pass such as:

  • 3 Days ASEAN Pass: RM39 (multi country pass)
  • 7 Days ASEAN Pass: RM49 (multi country pass)
  • 7 Days APAC Pass: RM69 (multi country pass)

• I have purchased 7 Days ASEAN Plus pass in Singapore. Can I use the same pass in Thailand on the same day?

  7 Days ASEAN Plus pass is a multi country pass. To know which countries you can use the pass in, refer here.

• I used to use the 7 Days ASEAN pass for China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, but I can’t find this pass anymore. What pass should I get for my trip to China?

  We updated our Data Roaming passes on 28 November, 2024. The ASEAN Plus pass that included China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau is no longer available.

  We are now offering a streamlined roaming pass for ASEAN and APAC countries, including enhanced 15-day and 30-day options. Here are the new passes:

  • 3 Days ASEAN Pass: RM39 (multi country pass)
  • 7 Days ASEAN Pass: RM49 (multi country pass)
  • 7 Days APAC Pass: RM69 (multi country pass)
  • 15 Days Multi country Data Pass: RM99 (includes Aeromobile)
  • 30 Days Multi country Data Pass: RM149 (includes Aeromobile)

  For travel to China, depending on your stay, consider the following options:

  • 7 Days APAC Pass: RM69 (multi country pass)
  • 15 Days Multi country Data Pass: RM99 (includes Aeromobile)
  • 30 Days Multi country Data Pass: RM149 (includes Aeromobile)

• What is Aeromobile?

  Aeromobile is an in-flight data connection provider, enabling you to access mobile data services while on board many major airlines. This service allows you to stay connected during your flight without any interruption.

  Passes Available for Aeromobile:

  The following Maxis Data Roaming passes include Aeromobile coverage, facilitating the use of data services during your flights:

  • 1 Day Data Roam: RM38, valid for 24 hours with 500MB. This pass will be automatically activated when your data usage on an Aeromobile-equipped aircraft reaches RM38. This prevents bill shock and offers better value.

  Aeromobile is also included in our newly revamped passes below to ensure you have seamless internet access during your flight and across multiple countries without the need for additional roaming plans.

  • 15 Days Multi country Pass: RM99 (available for purchase)
  • 30 Days Multi country Pass: RM149 (available for purchase)

• I have purchased 30 days Multi country Data pass in Singapore. Can I use the same pass in Australia?

  30 days Multi country Data pass is a multi-country pass. To know which countries you can use the pass in, refer here.

• I have already activated 15 Days Multi country Data pass for my trip. Is this also applicable for my data usage while I am in the flight?

  As long as the internet provider for the inflight service is Aeromobile, yes; your data usage will be available with 15 Days Multi country Data pass or 30 Days Multi country Data pass.

• Can I use the data roam passes in Malaysia?

  No, these passes are exclusive for roaming only.

• What is the Fair Usage Policy for the passes and how does it work?

  We offer unlimited internet with Fair Usage Policy (FUP). Upon reaching the. FUP limit, you will be informed and will be surfing on a reduced speed.

  The fair usage is 2GB of high speed data daily and unlimited quota at a reduced speed of 1Mbps which allows fairly good user experience for standard definition streaming.

• Will there be any additional charges if I have reached the Fair Usage Policy of daily quota?

  There are no additional charges. Once you have reached the Fair Usage Policy limit, you will be surfing on a reduced speed.

• Can I restore my Internet speed upon reaching the daily fair usage quota?

  Yes. You can restore your Internet usage speed by buying a new DataRoam Pass @ RM38/day. To subscribe dial *100# > International Roaming > Country > Buy 1d Data Pass.

• How many DataRoam Pass @ RM38/day can I buy at one time?

  There is no limit to the number of passes you can buy in a day; the pass(s) are stack-able, i.e. you can buy as many even before the fair usage quota expires.

• What happens if I use data roaming in a country where there is no data roaming pass available?

  To protect you from unexpected charges, data roaming is automatically blocked in countries where we do not offer value data roaming passes. This means you won’t be able to use data roaming in those countries to avoid accidental or costly data usage.

  If you need internet access while roaming in such countries, we recommend looking for alternative options such as connecting to local Wi-Fi networks
