#Maxis eKelas SMK Edition

What is Maxis eKelas?

Maxis eKelas is Maxis’ flagship digital learning programme for all Malaysian students. This digital after-school initiative aims to improve the academic performances of students with access to quality educational content that is in line with the Malaysian Education Syllabus. Our focus is on three core subjects - Science, Mathematics and English - from Year 6 up to Form 5. eKelas offers a combination of live tutorials, group learning and interactive digital content which students can access and participate via our online education portal at

What is HIP English StoryFest Competition about?

HIP (Highly Immersive Programme) was introduced by the Ministry of Education (MoE) in 2016 with the aim of improving the English proficiency of students by increasing their exposure to the language through a variety of activities within and beyond the classroom.

Maxis eKelas plays the role of community supporters by contributing in creating an English-speaking environment.Since 2019, our English competitions has been recognized by the MOE under Bahagian Sukan, Kokurikulum dan Kesenian as one of the activities under the HIP.

The HIP English StoryFest Competition is a combination of learning modules, workshops and task-based competition which focuses on Speaking/Storytelling and Essay Writing that students can participate in to win prizes offered by eKelas as well as accumulate PAJSK or co-curricular points at their respective schools.

By joining this competition, participants will be able to brush up their English speaking and writing skills through our learning modules and workshops. Once participants have completed the modules and learning videos available in the eKelas portal, they can choose either one of two tasks given:

  1. To write an essay based on provided topics, OR
  2. To record a video of the student telling a story based on a prompted script

Who can participate?

The competition is open to all Year 4 to Form 5 students who are registered in Maxis eKelas portal.

Note: For students, please get your parents/guardian’s consent before registering yourselves into the portal. The portal requires a valid email address and a mobile phone number for account activation.

Participants are categorized into 3 levels:

Level 1 (Primary) – For students from Year 4 until Year 6

Level 2 (Lower Secondary) – For students from Form 1 until Form 3

Level 3 (Upper Secondary) – For students from Form 4 until Form 5


Can I participate if I don’t register in eKelas portal?

No. All content for the competition (videos, instructions, submission channels) will only be exclusively posted in the eKelas portal. Only registered users will have access to HIP English StoryFest content.


What do participants get from this competition?

Top 5 winners of each Level 1, 2 and 3 will receive cash prizes in the form of deposit into PTPTN’s Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional (SSPN) accounts. Winners will receive eKelas participation and winner certificates with SSPN account details.

All participants will receive an eKelas participation certificate and will be able to collect PAJSK marks at your respective schools for Participation at National level. Additionally, winners will also receive marks for Achievement at National level.

NOTE: For further information and details about the PAJSK marks/points, please check and consult with your respective school teachers.


How do I participate in this competition? 

Participation is easy and it is free. There are 3 steps that you must follow to take part in this competition:

Step 1: Create/Login account on the Maxis eKelas portal at

  • Please ensure to choose Profile as “Student” where indicated when you are filling out the registration form. 
  • After a successful registration, you will be sent an activation link to the email you used to register. Please check your mailbox and activate your account by clicking that link. You will not be able to log into the portal if you don’t activate.
  • Once you have activated, log in using your registered username and password.

Step 2: Go through the HIP English learning modules

  • Once you have successfully logged into the portal, click the “HIP StoryFest” tab at the top part of the portal
  • Choose your Level and click any of the lessons available in the section and “Start Course”. There will be 5 parts videos each for Storytelling and Essay Writing.

Step 3: Choose a topic and a task, work on your entry and submit!

The level of difficulty for the Storytelling and Essay Writing tasks varies by level, as below:

  • Level 1 (Primary)
    Speaking: Topics are “How Durian Got Its Smell” and “Potato Child”​
    Essay: ​Guided Pictorial Composition​. Requirement: Between 80 – 100 words
  • Level 2 (Lower Secondary)
    Speaking: Topics are “Si Tanggang” and “Raja Bersiong”
    Essay: ​Guided Essay - Notes Expansion​. Requirement: Approximately 120 words
  • Level 3 (Upper Secondary)
    Speaking: Topics are “Stories That Let Me Live” and “The Robbery” ​
    Essay: ​Continuous Writing (Free Form)​. Requirement: Minimum 350 words

What you need to do for Storytelling task:

  • Record a video of you telling a story based on your level’s requirement and script
  • Upload and submit the recorded video in the eKelas portal or as per Abang Portal’s instructions

What you need to do for Essay Writing task:

  • Write an essay based on your level’s requirement
  • Upload and submit your essay in the eKelas portal or as per Abang Portal’s instructions

How long is the competition period? What is the deadline for entry submissions?

The competition officially starts on Thursday, 1 April 2021 and ends on Monday, 31 May 2021.

How many entries can a person submit? Can I do and submit both tasks?

You can submit ONE (1) entry per task. However, if you decide to submit for both tasks, we will still accept your entries, provided it is only one of each. Please note in the event that both of your entries are selected as the winner, you will only be awarded the prize for one entry, whichever has the higher prize value.

Do I need to pay to participate?

There are no participation or registration fee. Maxis eKelas is completely free for all students to register, use its content in the portal and participate in its programmes.

How will I know if I’m a winner?

Maxis eKelas will announce the winners list in the eKelas portal within ONE (1) month after the closing of the competition or such other dates as decided by Maxis eKelas at its discretion.

Winners will be contacted by Maxis eKelas via email and phone number provided in the eKelas portal.
