With Maxis, you will primarily connect to our advanced 4G LTE and 5G networks. These are our high-speed networks, designed to give you the best experience for data-intensive activities like video streaming, online gaming, and fast downloads.
To enhance these modern networks, we have completed the nationwide retirement of the older 3G network.
We also maintain our 2G network which provides essential connectivity for voice calls and SMS, ensuring you can stay connected even in areas where 4G or 5G coverage may be limited.
In summary:
- 5G/4G LTE: For high-speed data, streaming, and all internet activities.
- 2G: For basic voice calls and SMS.
- 3G: Discontinued (retired in December 2023).

For iPhone: Go to 'Settings' > 'Phone' > 'Blocked Contacts' > Unblock the sender if listed.
For Android: Go to 'Settings' > 'Messages' > 'Blocked Numbers' > Unblock the sender if listed.

Step 2: Search for 'Special Access' or 'Premium SMS Access'
Step 3: Select 'Always Allow' for messaging services.C. Send ‘UPDATE’ to the merchant short code.

An increasing number of countries have decommissioned 3G networks to prioritise newer technologies like 4G and 5G. This includes Australia, Singapore, the United States, Japan, South Korea, and others due to regulatory requirements.
Before travelling, we strongly advise checking your destination’s network status, as more regions are phasing out 3G services. In areas where 3G is discontinued, services like USSD (Menu Browsing) and SMS may be limited, as these often rely on legacy infrastructure.
For seamless connectivity, ensure your device supports 4G/LTE or 5G networks
