Maxis engages PPR Intan Baiduri community with knowledge sharing and fun this Deepavali

Lights, colours and cheerful faces filled Pusat Internet Intan Baiduri in Kepong recently. As part of Maxis’ Deepavali Festive Charity 2019, Maxis’ volunteers, M Squad, engaged with children and local entrepreneurs of the community here with an exciting programme filled with learning fun and activities.

Through a digital marketing workshop, local entrepreneurs learned how to use social media, content creation, photography and basic accounting to enhance their business. A special workshop was also held for the young ones to help them be safe, responsible and confident explorers of the online world. They were then treated to an exciting kolam competition full of vibrant colours.

“We were thrilled to be part of this exciting day with the community here. It’s one thing to share knowledge but another to see such a vibrant community come together to be part of the activities. I want to thank everyone from the community for their hospitality that has been nothing but warm and friendly. For Maxis, these are priceless moments,” said Mariam Bevi Batcha, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Maxis.

“There are many women here who run their own businesses, selling food items and clothing. We are grateful to have these digital programmes because the community here really needs it,” said S. Gunalan S. Suppiah, Head of the Indian community, Residents’ Association at PPR Intan Baiduri.

Jeyanthi a/p Arumugam, an entrepreneur who sells clothing, was excited at using technology for her business.

“I run a business selling sarees, lehengas and Punjabi suits. Sales have generally been fair, but I know there is more potential if I bring my business online. The workshop was really beneficial in helping to promote my products,” she said.

At the event, Maxis also presented food boxes to 25 underprivileged families and it ended on a sweet note with food and festivities in the community centre.

Pusat Internet Intan Baiduri is one of the many locations where Maxis runs its flagship community programme, eKelas, an after-school digital learning initiative that aims to improve the academic performance of students in rural and urban communities.
