UKM Partners With Maxis To Provide Campus-Wide WiFi Access For Total Connectivity
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Maxis are collaborating to enable UKM’s 13 campuses nationwide to be connected via Maxis’ WiFi services.
The 30,000-strong UKM student community can enjoy an “Always-On” and “Worry Free” experience anytime, anywhere on the best 4G LTE network in the country. In addition to the WiFi in campus, selected UKM buses that ply the Bangi campus route have also been fitted with free WiFi on board to ensure that students in particular are also connected while on-the-go.
“UKM is very determined to produce a digital generation and now each employee and student is geared towards embracing the right ICT technologies in all activities such as research, teaching and learning as well as community and industry networks. This collaboration with Maxis certainly plays a key role in enhancing UKM's desire through engagement in the six areas of UKM's KRA to mold the new Malaysian generation in the digital era, said Prof Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Noor Azlan Ghazali, Vice Chancellor, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
Shanti Jusnita Johari, Maxis’ Head of Enterprise Product said, “We are happy to be given this opportunity to collaborate with UKM and we feel that we are the right partner as we ourselves are going through digitalisation. At Maxis, we recognise that education is a critical sector where access to communications and advanced technology can play a vital role in driving excellence. By providing connectivity to the campus community, we are helping students and faculty members stay connected wherever they may be.”
This collaboration also extends to student development initiatives such as internship opportunities with Maxis, student entrepreneurship programmes, leadership talks by senior management of Maxis, among others.
In line with its ambition to be the leading ICT and solutions provider for Enterprise customers, Maxis is proud to announce its collaboration with Microsoft (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Microsoft) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), committing to use their respective expertise, technology and capabilities to create innovative digital solutions for organisations in Malaysia. Concurrently, the collaboration makes Maxis the first telco in Malaysia to offer fixed line voice calls with Microsoft Teams unified communications, as part of Microsoft’s Modern Workplace solutions.
Showcasing the potential of 5G in education, Maxis demonstrated its 5G use case, the virtual reality (VR) experience for Science learning in its eKelas programme to Yang Amat Berhormat Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia at Pusat Internet IOCC today. The VR learning experience by Maxis is the only 5G use case in the education vertical being piloted under the 5G Demonstration Projects in Langkawi.
