Rojak 360° Film, Gading Merah, By Award-Winning Storyteller, Released On Maxis YouTube

To celebrate Merdeka and Malaysia Day 2016, Maxis 4G & YouTube today premiered Maxis Rojak 360°, Malaysia’s 1st 360° film series by five homegrown award-winning storytellers. Using YouTube’s 360° immersive video-on-mobile platform, each film invites the audience to move their phones around in all directions in order to “See Malaysia From All Angles.”

Gading Merah, the latest film of Maxis Rojak 360°, Malaysia’s first 360° film series, is now available on Maxis’ YouTube channel. And its award-winning filmmaker Junad Mohd Nor, decided to premiere her film with Maxis employees today at Menara Maxis – complete with popcorn and VR lenses.

“We are extremely delighted that one of Malaysia’s top storytellers decided to celebrate her film premier with us at Maxis, and it cannot come at a more appropriate time in light of the upcoming Malaysia Day,” said Bernard Lee, Maxis’ Head of Marketing Communications.

Junad’s film is the 4th film to be premiered using cutting edge 360° cameras which can be viewed on any ordinary smartphone via YouTube.

“The film Gading Merah emphasises the importance of solidarity and unity. Because when we are united, nothing is impossible,” said Junad Mohd Nor, whose breakout film Ikal Mayang’s Odah showed at the world famous Busan International Film Festival.

Employees were also treated to two Maxis 4G films which were released earlier – the heartwarming Merdeka 2016 film The Last Kite Maker (www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0J52JlPy0c) and The Road Trip (www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFMH4CIoSrQ). Mazlan Mokhtar, Maxis’ Head of Southern Region, who was very much a part of the Kite Maker film, was at the event to relate his experience in the making of the extraordinary story.

Gading Merah film follows the three 360 films premiered earlier on 25 August by other homegrown award-winning storytellers - YouTube superstars The Ming Thing and RED People and Tamil hit movie directors Veedu. These films were released on YouTube on 26 August.

The Rojak 360° project is a celebration of Malaysia’s colourful diversity - highlighting uniqueness of local dialects, celebrating little-known cultural traditions, and showcasing the beauty of different corners of Malaysia. Using YouTube’s 360° immersive video-on-mobile platform, each film invites the audience to move their phones around in all directions in order to “See Malaysia From All Angles.”
