Maxis captures narrative of Malaysians inspired by the Internet in documentary series

Inspired by true stories of amazing Malaysians, Maxis embarked on a campaign to demonstrate the potential and possibilities of what technology and the Internet can do for our lives. To capture these moving narratives, the telco produced a series of three documentary films (docu-series) on Malaysians who had created remarkable opportunities using the Internet which have not only changed their own lives, but more importantly, enriched the lives of others around them.

Two of the three docu-series were screened exclusively for the media on 8 May during ‘Maxis Presents: Fibrenation Stories #fibrenationstories’, in Kuala Lumpur.

One of the subjects of the docu-series, former teacher turned prosthetics designer Sujana Bin Mohd Rejab, or Pak Su as he is fondly known, was present to share his experience with the media. Armed with knowledge that he gleaned from the Internet, Pak Su has created 50 types of prosthetic limbs for people around the world, giving a new lease of life to underprivileged kids who are disabled. Besides learning new knowledge, the Internet is also creating a platform for trade, empowering people with the means to a sustainable livelihood. This opened up the possibility for PichaEats, a social enterprise enabling 15 refugee families to cook and distribute their homeland food. Watch how these young entrepreneurs have built a successful business for a social cause.

The third documentary, which is soon to be released, tells the tale of Kathires, a gamer who showed the world that great potential can come in many forms, including charting an unconventional career in eSports.

“When we launched our fibre plans in September last year, we were on a mission to fiberise Malaysia with affordable fibre Internet access. Our goal is simple: We want even more Malaysians to have access to connectivity. Maxis providing access to the internet is just one part of it, but the big impact here is the remarkable efforts of Malaysians leveraging the Internet to learn, explore, build things and sustain communities. It’s not just about using the Internet to learn or provide meals or build a career, but these are stories of Malaysians who are creating an impact that is far reaching, making a difference to peoples’ lives,” said Tai Kam Leong, Head of Brand & Marketing, Maxis.
