Hotlink Fuels eSports Popularity With Launch Of Game Credits

With the rapid growth of the online games industry and in anticipation of the shift in global trends of video games as a spectator sport, Maxis has today introduced a brand new Game Credits top-up facility via Hotlink Top-up tickets or terminal printouts. Partnering with key online game publishers Asiasoft, CIB, Garena, IAHGames and Cubinet, Maxis is the first telco to introduce the service which is available to all Malaysians, with additional benefits for Hotlink customers who use the facility.

For the launch, the following benefits will be offered exclusively for Hotlink customers. For every top-up made via Hotlink top up ticket, users will get:

3 days IP + 3 days XP Boost on League of Legends online game worth RM19.95. Applicable for RM10 & above top-up tickets
Room Name Color Changer on Blackshot online game worth RM4.00
06 Golden Key on EA FIFA Online 3 game worth RM3.50
Any game from IAH Games will come with additional 10% iCash (IAH Games currency) based on the equivalent top-up game point value

Here's how to use Hotlink's Game Credits:

Sign-in to games account in any one of the partner publisher's website
Select Payment or Top-up
Select Hotlink Top-up Ticket as payment option
Login or Perform one-time registration
Key in 16-digit & transaction completes

"At Hotlink, we understand this robust gaming market and the needs of online gamers. With the introduction of Game Credits, we're enabling avid Malaysian gamers to have easier access to this social phenomenon. Many of our customers in our base are already gamers so this is great value for them, and they can now use a Hotlink top up ticket for more than just airtime reload. Our extensive Hotlink distribution network of more than 14,000 points throughout the country is also a huge advantage," said Navin Manian, Maxis' Head of Prepaid, Consumer Business

The online games industry has seen rapid growth recently. By 2016, the size of the global games market is forecasted to reach USD86.1 billion. In the last two years, there's also been a shift in trends where video games are now being popularised as a spectator sport, or eSports, which has had a surge in growth. eSports combines the multiplayer gaming experience with real-world physical sports. At the end of 2014, four game franchises have now had eSports events with a prize pool of more than USD1 million: League of Legends, DoTA2, Call of Duty and SMITE.1
