Upon approval from Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to trial 200MHz of 3.5GHz C-band spectrum, Maxis successfully achieved 2.96Gbps for single user peak speeds, recording a new high at two of its trial sites in Subang Jaya recently. The new record further reinstates the position of Maxis being in the forefront of technology leadership for the nation’s 5G development.
Maxis Announces Appointment Of New CEO Effective 1 May 2019
Maxis Berhad is pleased to announce the appointment of Gökhan Ogut as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to take office on 1 May 2019. He will be reporting to the Chairman and the Board. Gökhan, who was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of Maxis since 1 Sept 2018, takes over from Robert Nason, who is currently the Interim CEO of Maxis.
“We are pleased to welcome Gökhan as CEO of Maxis. We are confident that with his vast experience and focus on innovation and growth, he is the right person to drive our new strategy,” said Raja Tan Sri Arshad, Chairman of the Board of Maxis.
Gokhan brings to Maxis his wide management experience in the telecommunications and fast moving consumer goods industries. He was previously the CEO of Vodafone Turkey. Before Vodafone, Gökhan was in senior marketing as well as general management roles with a number of large and well-known companies like Danone and Procter & Gamble, holding positions that had domestic as well as global responsibilities in Turkey, US and France. Gökhan holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Turkey and a Master in Business Administration from University of Illinois, Chicago.
Robert will remain on the Board as a Non Independent Non Executive Director, and will be appointed as Chairman of the Business and IT Transformation Committee and a member of the Audit Committee. The Board has provided for a smooth transition period between Gökhan and Robert which will expire at the conclusion of Robert’s contract as the Interim CEO of Maxis on 30 April 2019.

Maxis and Allo Technology Sdn. Bhd. (Allo), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), will collaborate to provide greater access to fibre connectivity to more people and businesses in Cyberjaya and Bangsar South in the Klang Valley and Jasin in Malacca. Celcom Axiata Bhd (Celcom) and Maxis Berhad (Maxis) successfully conducted Southeast Asia’s first 5G Multi Operator Core Network (MOCN) trial, achieving peak speeds of more than 1.1Gbps in an outdoor environment at trial sites in Langkawi, Kedah.
