Maxis Spreads Festive Cheer For Kinabalu Malim Association Members

The earthquake that hit Ranau, Sabah in June this year saw Malaysians come together in a true spirit of giving. Recognising the bravery of mountain guides and their plight of having their livelihood impacted by the tragedy, Maxis decided to ease their burden by helping out in conjunction with the festivities.

On 15 December, approximately 250 members of the Mount Kinabalu Guides Association and their families were Guests-of-Honour at a Christmas event held at Kinabalu Park, Kundasang. During the event, Maxis distributed school uniforms to 100 members with school going children. In addition, a donation of RM10,000 was contributed to the Association. Melvin Jeffrine Mojinun, Maxis Head of Sabah Region presented the cheque to the Association’s Chairman, Mr Richard Soibi.

“After the earthquake, many companies had come forward to help us. This time, it was different. Maxis was the first company to extend the contribution to children of our members by giving the school uniforms, which is timely, and we really appreciate their gesture,” said Richard.

“When we heard about how the guides saved so many people during the Sabah earthquake, it inspired us to reach out and personally thank them for their bravery and efforts. In the spirit of the festive season, this was the perfect time to celebrate with them as well as their families. We hope that our contribution to the Association will go a long way towards helping them in organising activities for its members,” said Melvin.

Earlier in July, Maxis also distributed 20 units of 400-gallon water tanks to earthquake victims in 10 villages in Kundasang.
