Maxis One Club (MOC) customers received a real treat recently when their children had the thrill of receiving coaching sessions from YBhg Dato’ Lee Chong Wei, the world’s top badminton player and Maxis Berhad’s (Maxis) sports ambassador. Maxis, Malaysia's only integrated communications service provider, hosted the exclusive one-day coaching and hands-on badminton training session with the top sportsman for 45 children at Sports Arena @ Sentosa on 17 August 2013. Dato’ Lee shared with them helpful tips on how to improve their skills while the children even had the rare opportunity to play one-on-one against him.

Participants of the coaching session were selected based on MOC customers having to answer five badminton-related questions via an online contest held earlier. 45 customers who answered the questions correctly were then picked to enrol one child aged seven to 17 years old in the coaching session.

Dushyan Vaithiyanathan, Maxis’ Head of Consumer Business, said, “At Maxis, we value and appreciate customers who have been with us for a long time, and this special programme with Dato’ Lee is just one of the many ways we are rewarding them for their continuous support over the years. Through this coaching session, we are pleased to have been able to provide the children of our proud MOC customers with a ‘money-can’t-buy’ experience, and certainly hope that they thoroughly enjoyed themselves during the event.”

Mr Yong Yuh Shyong, an MOC customer whose 16-year-old son, Yong Boon Hann, took part in the coaching session, said ”It was totally worth it for me to drive all the way from Kuantan to send my son for this badminton coaching session. My son is a big fan of Dato’ Lee Chong Wei and it’s really wonderful that he got to play one-to-one with him!”
Another MOC customer, Madam Ong Liew Mei, was thrilled that her son, Lau Kee Liang, 13, had the opportunity to be coached by the renowned player. “I’m very grateful to Maxis for organising this event. It’s really wonderful to be able to see Dato’ Lee Chong Wei in person, take pictures with him, get his autograph and most importantly, my son got to play with Dato’ Lee one-to-one! This is truly a memorable experience for our family!”

In addition to the personal coaching session by Dato’ Lee, each participant brought home a jersey as well as a group photo autographed by Dato’ Lee as a memento. The children also took part in a Q&A session, during which the participants who correctly answered questions related to Dato’ Lee and his badminton career each won a Yonex badminton racquet autographed by the badminton star himself.
