Supporting B40 students with eKelas kiosk!

eKelas Kiosk

In conjunction with our Chief Executive Offer, Gokhan Ogut’s recent visit to Johor in early July, we have set up our first eKelas kiosk at SMK Tanjung Puteri Resort in Pasir Gudang!

SMK Tanjung Puteri Resort is located at the industrial area of Pasir Gudang. There are about 1,000 students in this school and 85% of them are from B40 background where most of the parents earn their living as factory workers and fishermen. We know that B40 students are the most vulnerable group when it comes to online learning, with most not having internet connectivity in their homes, restricting their opportunities to further their learning and skills development. Understandably, with household income less than RM4,850, living through the day is the priority. Studies showed that usually, very little to no expenditure is allocated for education. Without quality education, these students face considerable barriers to employment and earning potential later in life.

eKelas Kiosk

We hope to change that. With eKelas, we can play a role to enhance access to learning support and quality education content. A new initiative under eKelas, we are setting up eKelas kiosk in schools with majority B40 students, giving access to both teachers and students FREE learning content from eKelas, which includes pre-recorded videos and live tutorials that can support them academically.  Apart from accessing the content via the portal and app, students at the schools can also access from the desktop itself.  For this purpose, we are contributing between 2 – 5 refurbished desktops to the selected schools.

Now, the students at SMK Tanjung Puteri Resort can access eKelas live tutorial sessions, SPM Clinics and join our competitions from the eKelas kiosks we set up in their computer labs. Additionally, we also contributed 80 dictionaries and sets of exercise books to the students during the event.

We look forward to hearing back from the students and teachers on the impact of eKelas kiosks before we bring them to more underserved communities later.

At Maxis, we always #findnewways to impact the communities in need and create #delightmoment for all Rangkaians in Malaysia, leaving no one behind.
