eKelas News Update: eKelas students ‘make’ Bubur Lambuk

Our collaboration with Astro’s Projek Bubur Lambuk Kampung Baru that took place last May saw a total of 9,000 packets being delivered to various locations around the Klang Valley, including to Hospital Kuala Lumpur, IPD Sentul and Rumah Titian Kasih.

But there was no stopping this campaign from going beyond urban Kuala Lumpur. Students of Maxis’ flagship community programme, eKelas, also got involved in the campaign themselves. Other than sharing the story of Bubur Lambuk Kampung Baru with engaging activities and fun quizzes on English via our eKelas Portal (www.ekelas.com.my), eKelas students also shared photos of their own home-made bubur lambuk, sharing their family recipes and also on their experiences eating bubur lambuk at home.

It was our hope that by sharing this campaign we would have encouraged our eKelas students to learn more about the origins of this century old tradition and importantly, the values of sharing and unity. Learning in eKelas is always fun and with this project, it provides the opportunity for students to build their confidence in speaking in English, not to mention new descriptive words to add to their vocabulary.

Bringing out the best in us

It’s been nearly three months since Malaysia stepped into a new realm of life and business, and as the entire nation works together hand in hand to flatten the Covid-19 curve, I applaud the Government’s efforts in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the people. The announcement of all the Economic Stimulus Packages very early on to cushion the impact on the livelihoods of Malaysians, were timely in the hope of bringing much relief to the people. We remember especially those who have lost their lives – our thoughts and prayers are with their loved ones.
