Maxis Awards Young Talents With Scholarships To Top Universities

Maxis Berhad (Maxis) continued to demonstrate its strong commitment to education and leadership development by presenting the Maxis Scholarship for Excellence Awards (MSEA) to 10 outstanding young Malaysian students. The awards were presented by Maxis' Chairman, YM Raja Tan Sri Dato' Seri Arshad Raja Tun Uda at a special ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur on 27 August.

This year's MSEA scholarship recipients were 10 undergraduates, who will be attending notable international universities including London School of Economics, Imperial College London, University of Queensland and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, among others. The scholars were selected by internal and external panels of distinguished judges.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, YM Raja Tan Sri Arshad said, "We understand that any success in our country's growth and economic transformation hinges on our ability to cultivate Malaysian talent in meeting the needs of future development. It is with this belief that we are always eager to support young Malaysians in fulfilling their aspirations and potential by opening up opportunities for them through our MSEA programme."

Scholarship recipient Tien Eu Min, who will be studying Psychology at University College London, expressed his excitement and gratitude in being chosen as an MSEA scholar. "I'd like to thank Maxis for giving me the opportunity to be part of their young talent pool and to better serve the nation through the MSEA programme."

Girrja a/p Mohandass, who will be pursuing her studies in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, said, "It's truly an honour to be one of the MSEA recipients. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I'm very grateful to Maxis for it. After my graduation, I'm very much looking forward to being part of Maxis where I believe I can gain valuable knowledge and skills required in the corporate world."

Another MSEA scholar, Mohd Afiq Bin Mohd Fauzi, who will be studying Economics at the University of Queensland, said, "It feels amazing being an MSEA recipient. I still wake up in the morning in disbelief! Not only have I been waiting so long for a chance to further my studies, but to also get it from one of the most coveted scholarship programmes in the country is the cherry on top."

Maxis' other education-related efforts include its Cyberkids flagship project which aims to bridge the digital divide and provide Malaysian students with technology-related skills. To date, Maxis has reached out to more than 9,200 students and teachers in over 1,500 schools nationwide. In 2012, the Cyberkids programme was expanded to Special Needs Schools.
