GENERAL INFORMATION
- What is the Maxis Scholarship for Excellence (Undergraduate) programme?
This is a scholarship scheme that Maxis is offering its postpaid customers (and their children) who are Malaysian citizens. Maxis believes that investing in the youth of Malaysia is an important way we can contribute to the development of the country.
- How many people will be awarded scholarships by Maxis?
Maxis plans to offer around 40 scholarships a year.
- What is the value of the scholarship awarded?
The value will depend on the location of the institute of higher learning the applicant selected. If the scholar is pursuing an undergraduate course in Malaysia, the scholarship awarded is RM 10,000 per year and if the scholar is studying in a foreign institution, the scholarship awarded is up to RM 150,000 per year.
The scholarship amount includes the following:-
- Tuition fees (at cost)
- Maintenance allowance (fixed amount)
- Book allowance (fixed amount)
- Flight tickets (at cost, for overseas students)
- Are there specific universities that Maxis is supporting with the programme?
Maxis is open to considering applicants to any university locally or nationally. However, priority is given to those who have obtained admission into the preferred list of universities. The preferred universities are:
ELIGIBILITY/TERMS & CONDITIONS
- Who is eligible for this scholarship?
An applicant must meet all of the following criteria:
- Postpaid customers who have been customers for a minimum of 1 year and their children
- Malaysian citizens
- Aged 23 years and below
- Fulfil the necessary academic requirements
- Intend to study or are currently pursuing undergraduate courses at higher learning institutes approved by the Malaysian government. Click here to view the list of higher learning institutions.
- What are the academic requirements for the scholarship?
The academic requirements are:
- STPM- minimum 3 As, or
- Matriculation/Diploma: CGPA 3.5 or above, or
- A Level - minimum 3 As, or
- Australian TER - minimum 90.0, or
- recognised foundation / pre-university courses - equivalent to CGPA 3.5 or above, or
- Current first or second year students must have CGPA of 3.5 or above.
- What are the areas of study covered by the scholarship?
There is no restriction on field of study for local university.
However, for foreign universities the field of studies preferred are those related to telecommunication industry
- Business Administration/ Management/ Marketing / Accounting/ Finance/ Communications/ Human Resources Management;
- Engineering - Electronic/Electrical/Power/Computer Communications, Telecommunications, Civil and Mechanical;
- Computer Science/Information Technology/Information System/Science Quantitative
- Mathematics and Actuarial Science
- Law
- Will applicants be bonded?
Those who are pursuing local degrees will not be bonded. However, in keeping with industry practise, those who pursue overseas courses will be bonded for 3 years.
- Can students apply if they are currently receiving loans from other body or organisation such as PTPTN, JPA, etc.?
Anyone eligible can apply. Students pursuing local courses must obtain the written consent of Maxis if they are or will be receiving any loans, funds, awards or any forms of monetary or financial assistance (but not scholarships and the likes) from any body or organisations. However, students pursuing overseas courses are not allowed to receive any loans, funds, scholarships or any forms of monetary or financial assistance from any other body or organisation and must terminate all such arrangements prior to accepting a scholarship from Maxis. Students will have to be responsible for the settlement of any loans to the body/organisation which originally provided the loans.
- Does Maxis place the selected applicant into institutions, or do they have to do it on their own?
Students are expected to obtain admission on their own.
- Can applicants apply for a scholarship if they have been accepted into other institutions not covered in the preferred list?
While priority will be given to those applying to the preferred list, all applications are welcome. Maxis will consider each application on a case to case basis
- Can students who are currently studying in a university still apply for the scholarship?
Yes, eligible applicants who are in the first or second year of their undergraduate courses may apply. However, funding will not be retroactive
- Can full-time employee who wish to pursue or are pursuing a degree on a part-time basis apply?
Only those who wish to pursue full time degrees will be considered
- If a customer has more than one child, can all the children apply at the same time?
As long as all the children meet the criteria, Maxis will be willing to consider their application
- Are students allowed to switch areas of study while on the scholarship?
Applicants are encouraged to carefully select their major in respect of the undergraduate course. Should there be a need to switch their major, Maxis will consider these requests on a case by case basis.
- If the students were awarded the Scholarship, can they receive additional financial assistance from other organisations?
No. We feel other sources of financial assistance from other organisations should be made available to other eligible students who are not tied under our scholarship
- Is there a min grade that students need to maintain as Maxis’ scholars?
As Maxis scholars, you will need to maintain a CGPA of 3.0.
- Can students pursue a double major degree under the Maxis’ Scholarship?
Yes, subject to the condition that the total time spent on the programme does not exceed four years, and that the applicant meets all other criteria. Funding will be subject to the scholarship limits.
APPLICATION PROCESS
- How can one apply for Maxis Scholarship for Excellence scholarship?
Please visit www.maxis.com.my/scholarship to submit your applications online. Alternatively, they can write into Maxis human resources to obtain an application kit.
- When can applicants start applying and when will they know if they have been successful?
This would depend on the location of the institute of higher learning you are planning to select.
Please refer to the website and advertisement on the scholarship.
Currently the application window is closed.
Short-listed candidates will be notified two (2) weeks after the Closing Date.
- What will Maxis do with the information applicants send?
Your information will be used solely for the purpose of evaluating the status of your application. We understand the sensitivity of information provided, and as such will restrict the access of data to our evaluators only.
- Do applicants need to mail their certificates in to Maxis Scholarship for Excellence?
No, applicants do not need to send in their certificates. Short-listed applicants will need to bring copies of their certificates when they come for interview with Maxis’ panel of selectors.
- Can students attach a letter of recommendation from their institution/ company/ agency?
You need not attach or send us any letters of recommendation.
- I missed the online application deadline. Can I submit my scholarship application manually?
Any applications arriving after the Closing Date will not be entertained.
- How do I know if I am short-listed or not?
All short-listed applicants will be contacted directly via the contact details provided within 2-3 weeks after the Closing Date. Please ensure that your contact details are correct and accurate.
- What happens if I have not secured a place in any university, but I am shortlisted by Maxis Scholarship for Excellence?
We require students to show that they have secured a place at their university of choice and that they have satisfied any conditions of entry (eg grades)
- Can I appeal your decision if I am not shortlisted?
All decisions on the selection of scholarship awards are final.
ONLINE SUBMISSION/TECHNICAL
- I received an error message during my application. Why does it occur, and do I need to do anything?
Under certain conditions (inter alia, slow or intermittent internet connection, peak usage hours), our website may return error messages. If this happens, you need to:
In the case of power outage during your application, you may have to complete and submit the online form again.
- I have filled the online form and clicked the “Submit” button, but the form will not go through. How do I solve this?
You may have missed some compulsory sections in the online application form. Please ensure you have completed all compulsory fields, which are marked with an asterisk (*), then click on the “Submit” button.
Note : For the salary section, if either parent is retired or deceased, please enter a zero (0) so that the system recognises your input.
- My personal details have changed after I have submitted my application. Can I update the changes in my online form?
YES, you may access your application account as long as the submission date has not expired.
- I want to edit my statement of purpose. How do I do this?
You are NOT allowed to edit your statement of purpose after you have submitted your online application.
- I took a long time to fill up the statement of purpose section. Will this put me at a disadvantage?
We would advise you not to take more than half an hour to write the statement of purpose. The application is not considered complete unless you submit the statement of purpose, and for sessions of more than one hour, you run the risk of having your internet connection timing out. If such instances occur, you will need to resubmit your application again.
- I have submitted my application online. How do I know that you have received my online form?
After submitting your application, you will be taken to a confirmation page, stating the conclusion of the application process. You will also need to confirm your contact details (as stated in your application) so that an acknowledgement email can be sent to you.
