Almost everyone these days has a mobile phone or communications device. We can’t imagine life without one. However, many questions have been raised about the impact of communications technology on our health and wellbeing. As a responsible company, Maxis follows guidelines relating to electromagnetic fields and radiation.

Mobile phones transmit radiofrequency (RF) waves and create electromagnetic fields (EMF) as they communicate with base stations. The levels of RF and electromagnetic radiation emitted by these devices depend on the distance of the mobile phone to the base station as well as the type of device.

In general, radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation is a non-ionising radiation that is harmless to humans. To date, scientific studies have not been able to confirm that exposure to RF and EMF from mobile phones or base stations has harmful health effects. Network equipment like antennas, repeater sites and base stations also emit radiofrequency waves in order to ensure extensive and high-quality mobile coverage.

Whenever Maxis installs new network equipment, we follow local regulations and guidelines set by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, and other international standards and best practices including the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s electromagnetic exposure standards and guidelines.
