What is VSAT?
VSAT stands for Very Small Aperture Terminal. It uses the satellite to transmit and receive data, voice/fax and video communications between sites.
How reliable are VSATs?
VSATs are very reliable. The satellite link has an availability of 99.97% and the end-to-end VSAT network availability is 99.85%
Will unfavorable weather conditions affect VSAT transmission?
No. Maxis uses the C-band frequency for its VSAT services thus ensuring its services are not affected by weather conditions.
How is a VSAT installation done?
A site survey is first conducted to determine the best location for the VSAT antenna, taking into consideration space constraints, the antenna look-angle, cable routing and space for the in-door satellite modem. The VSAT antenna can be installed on the rooftop, on the ground or even be mounted on the wall.
How long does it take to install a VSAT?
After the site survey, it takes 2 days to build a concrete foundation and install an antenna mount. The actual VSAT installation takes only 2 to 3 hours including the antenna tracking, testing and commissioning of the system.
Is there any harmful radiation to human beings or interference with other equipment when using the VSAT service?
There is no harmful radiation to human beings working around the antenna as its transmission is always directed skywards. VSAT terminals have been widely used around the world and there have been no interference to other equipment.
What is the dimension of the SkyWay™ VSAT antenna and how big is the space required for installing it?
The size of a SkyWay™ VSAT antenna is 1.8 meter (about 3 times the size of an Astro dish) and the overall weight is about 190 kg (including the antenna mount). The base foundation required for installing the VSAT antenna on the ground is 6 feet x 6 feet.
